NHS Pharmacy First – Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Service

Fast UTI Treatment Without a GP Appointment

Our pharmacy offers the NHS Pharmacy First Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) Service, providing convenient access to assessment and treatment without the need to see a GP.

Through the National Health Service (NHS) Pharmacy First service, our trained pharmacists can assess uncomplicated UTIs and, where appropriate, supply NHS treatment during your visit.

What Is a Urinary Tract Infection (UTI)?

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is a common infection that affects the bladder and can cause uncomfortable symptoms. Many mild to moderate UTIs can be safely treated by a pharmacist under NHS guidelines.

Who Can Use the NHS UTI Service?

The Pharmacy First UTI service is available for:

  • Women aged 16 to 64 years
  • Patients registered with a GP in England
  • Those experiencing symptoms of an uncomplicated lower UTI

Common symptoms include:

  • A burning or stinging sensation when passing urine
  • Needing to urinate more often or urgently
  • Cloudy, dark, or strong-smelling urine
  • Lower tummy discomfort

If your symptoms suggest a more complex infection, we will refer you to your GP or another appropriate healthcare provider.

What Happens During Your Consultation?

Your consultation will take place in our private consultation room and usually lasts around 10–15 minutes.

During the appointment, our pharmacist will:

  • Ask about your symptoms and medical history
  • Assess whether the infection is uncomplicated
  • Provide self-care advice
  • Supply NHS treatment if clinically appropriate

If needed, we will refer you for further medical assessment.

Is the Service Free?

The consultation is free under the NHS.

If NHS treatment is supplied:

  • It is free for patients eligible for free prescriptions
  • Standard NHS prescription charges apply if you are not exempt

There is no private consultation fee for eligible patients.

Why Choose Pharmacy First for UTI Treatment?

  • Same-day access
  • Expert clinical assessment
